I have been giving teacher training sessions on how to create a webpage through the free provider of Weebly.com. You may create two personalized pages for free. Any additional sites come at a cost. Since others may find this information useful, I will include the three mini Screenr presentations here. Please use at your convenience. People may express themselves through a world wide audience through online social networks like Facebook & Twitter. However, there are dangers to this unlimited forms of communication with cyberbullying, identity theft, sexting, etc. I discuss ways to safely utilize social networking in a voice thread titled "Social Networking & Teen Issues." http://bit.ly/ycmUda

It also continually transforms the education world. Take a look at the 2011 Educational Wikispace blog winners for 2011

I define this as interacting online with others who share the same interests. I have already gained so many ideas by getting involved in this process. Let me share with you four amazing online tools to create your own PLN. Use a Google search to retrieve these sites.
1. Edmodo-a site exclusively designed for educators with a Facebook like format. Teachers can create class accounts for student participation. It's beneficial in two key ways. A. It's unfiltered at a majority of school sites. B. Students don't need personal email accounts to register. 2. I Google-may be used as a tool for organizing favorite personal or professional sites. Students and teachers who have Google accounts may register. 3. Symbaloo-very similar to I Google with an IPAD/Smart Phone interface. Websites selected look like Apps on the screen 4. Twitter-allows user to expand their personal & professional base nationally & internationally. Unfortunately, students can't access it on many school campuses due to district filters. Image located at http://bit.ly/uVwXk9 Over the past couple of weeks, I have transferred Yolasite pages to Weebly. This may cause confusion for some of you who have used my subject-based sites. I have made the connections as necessary. I will also include a new page with all of my professional websites listed. A couple of websites are still in process of being completed.

Sadly, many schools are slashing school librarians and even libraries themselves due to the current fiscal crisis. You'll appreciate the contributions of these professionals. after looking at Joyce Valenza's blog posting and the School Tube Video "What Librarians Make". The links are included below. Hopefully, there are other ways states and school districts can fulfill their financial obligations, and not at the expense of the library & librarians.

Take a look at their amazing presentations at the Book Club section. These will be posted by the conclusion of the March 4 school day.

This is especially timely since CHS may not have the finances to renew the EBSCO and GALE database subscriptions for the next school year. Remember reading or listening to stories such as The night before Christmas, The Grinch that stole Christmas, and/or The nativity story? You have several opportunities during this holiday season to purchase a book for a loved one, friend, colleague, and classmate. On Wednesday December 8, 2010, the Redlands Barnes & Noble will host a book fair for Terrace Hills Middle School. At Colton High School, students and faculty may purchase and/or donate books for the Merry XMAS books exchanges during both lunches on Friday December 10, 2010. Educators may also purchase books at 20-80% at local Scholastic Book Fair Warehouses. Look at http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events/warehouse/index.asp for futher details. For those of you who are unable to participate in any of the mentioned events, pay attention to sales & promotions from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Target, Walmart, or any other major outlet. Make sure to visit the local library for holiday activities as well. Literacy is a precious gift especially during this time of the year.
The previous Animoto holiday video will inspire even more. http://animoto.com/play/RkNT69cYcxMLnPAr9uFOEQ?autostart=true Image from http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CdFSqHdNIGk/SSyYRrfcsuI/AAAAAAAAB94/Wwd3YiWivDs/s320/gifts.jpg |
